I used to think that this comes from growing up in Germany, but apparently more people feel that way here. In the latest issue of the South African 'Ideas' magazine I found a pattern for a knitted lamp.


It looks like a tulip and I love it!

You will need:

4 knitting needles (4.5 mm)
50 g grey wool
1 LED light bulb
1 lamp holder
3 m light duty electrical cable
1 electric plug

Cast on 9 stitches on 3 needles (3 stitches per needle). Knit stocking stitch in rounds until your tube is about
180 cm (5.9 feet) long.

Knit the end as follows:

1. row: knit one, increase one, knit one, until the end of the row
2. row: knit
3. row: knit one, increase one, increase one, knit one until the end
4. row: knit
5. row: knit one, increase one, knit two, increase one, knit one until the end
6. row: knit
7. row: knit one, purl one,

Continue doing that for about 8.5 cm (3.34 inches), depending on the size of your bulb.
Then cast off.

Darn yard ends, connect the plug to your cable, pull tube over cable, then connect your lamp holder and your bulb,
and enjoy!
