Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwich ~ The Grubery

I want to start off by thanking the gals at Inspiration Cafe for inviting me to guest post.  My name is Jullee and I blog over at The Grubery where I cook up delicious delights for my family.  I am a wife and the Mother of three beautiful little girls ranging in age from 5 years to 5 months.  When it comes to eating I like to try anything and everything.  In the past I have tried some strange things..like Bull testicles and fried Rattle snake.  The only thing that makes me squeamish is raw or rare meat.  I prefer my steak well done!

I'm sure some of you out there feel like I do about feeding the kids yet another lunch!  My kids get an awesome rotation of about 4 meals..nuggets, grilled cheese, PB&J, and bean and cheese quesadillas.

But every once in a while old Mom gets a fun idea.  The kids always love it when I do this.  The other day it just so happened that I had all the ingredients on hand to make pizza...well everything except dough.  I thought it might be fun to try a Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwich.  My kids instantly thought I was the coolest and started singing my praises.

My kids seriously lucked out this day!  I had white bread left over from a fancy pants..ahem... $30 bread pudding I had made the night before.  My kids hardly even know that white bread exists.  I also used up the rest of a jar of Marinara Sauce, some Turkey Pepperoni, and pre-shredded cheese.  Now if you have one feel free to use a fancy pants panini press.  I don't have one so I use my ten or eleven year old George Forman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine.  In a pinch you could also use a frying pan and press the bread down with a heavy plate.

Put a good helping of shredded cheese on top of the bread and spread it around.  Cover with plenty of Pepperoni cause that's the best part.  Sprinkle a little cheese on top of the Pepps to insure ultimate gooeyness.  Then spread a bit of Marinara on the other slice of bread.

Generously spread a bit of softened Butter on each side of the bread.  You don't want to scrimp cause this is what makes it get all golden brown and delicious.  A little (or a lot) of butter makes the world go round.  Grill it up on a heated George until the cheese begins to ooze and everything is looking and smelling fantastic.

Well howdy little partner!  Check out the gooeyness on this bad boy!  Try not to burn yourself as you gobble every last tasty morsel.

Thanks again for letting me hang out with you all today!  Give this sandwich a try and I can assure you that your kids will be asking for this meal every day.  Don't forget to check me out at The Grubery where you can find lots of other goodies.

  5. Amy, the George always comes in handy at my house. Strangely it always seems to be in place of a panini press...but you do what you gotta do.
