Sunglasses Case Tutorial - Clippie Dips

Hi all! Amy from Clippie Dips here again! :)

Now that I live in Texas, I use my sunglasses year 'round. Yes, even in the winter! Because of that, of course I had to make a cute little case to carry them around in! How could I not?! :) Today I'm going to show you how to make your own!

Supplies:

fabric scraps
felt scraps
sewing machine
rotary cutter and mat (optional)
scissors
thread

Cut (2) exterior fabric pieces 4” x 8”.
Cut (2) interior felt pieces 4” x 8”.
Cut (2) fusible fleece 3 ¾” x 7 ¾”.
**If you wear really large frames, you may want to measure your own sunglasses**

Iron fleece onto the wrong side of your exterior fabric pieces.

Now is the time to embellish it the way you want. You all know how much I LOVE banners, so I cut out mini triangles, placed them on the front making sure to keep them inside the seam line. Then I pinned them and sewed them on.
Place exterior pieces right sides together and sew with a scant ¼” seam as shown.
Clip your corners and turn it right side out. Then set it aside.

Now, take your interior felt pieces and place them right side together. This time when we sew, we’re going to leave a 3” gap on the side as shown.  Sew as shown. Then, clip corners.
Take your exterior case piece and slip it inside the interior piece as shown.
Match up the seams and make sure it's even across the top and pin.
Sew all the way around the top with a ¼” seam, backstitching at the beginning and end.  This part can be tricky but thankfully it’s a short distance to sew. Go slowly!
Reach into the gap you left for turning, and pull the exterior out through the opening.
Pin the opening closed and sew as close to the edge as possible.
Push the lining down into your new sunglasses case! ALL DONE! Super easy, right?!

These are so quick to make and there are so many ways to embellish them! I know you're going to have so much fun making these! :)

Rolled Flower Patriotic Pin - Clippie Dips

Happy 4th of July !!! Amy from Clippie Dips is here today to share a simple patriotic pin...

Happy 4th of July everyone! Today I'm sharing with you a really simple little pin that you can probably whip up within 20 minutes!

Supplies

-felt
-scissors
-pin
-glue gun

First you'll need to cut (3) 4 1/4" x 1" pieces of felt. I chose to use red, white and blue for the holiday.

Then, you're going to overlap the ends of your felt 1/4" and glue them together.

Fold the entire length in half and glue as you go.

Cut slits, about 1/4" apart all the way down the top of the felt strip.

Now, you're going to start at one end an roll it together in a sort of spiral fashion, gluing as you go. (The pin was just to hold it together for the picture!)

Once it's completely rolled and glued, cut a circle out of felt just big enough to cover the back of the flower.

Then, cut 2 little slits into the circle, just big enough to push the pin back through like in the photo below.

Glue it onto the back of your flower.

Let it dry and then you're done! Pin it to your favorite bag or clutch!

Pin it to your shirt! Or Hello Kitty nightgown ;)!

These are so versatile! Have fun with different colors for every occasion!

Food Bowl Mat Tutorial - Clippie Dips

Amy from Clippie Dips  is here today....

Hello all! So glad to be back! I always enjoy my time here at the Cafe! I've got a really easy project for you today so if you're a beginning sewer, THIS is the tutorial for you! It really does not get any easier!

 SUPPLIES
-fabric scraps
-fusible interfacing (could use batting)
-sewing machine
-rotary cutter, mat and ruler (optional)
-fabric marker
-iron

You first need to measure the area your pet's food bowls sit on. Mine has a stand that was around 12 1/2" x 6". I didn't want mine to have any overhang, so I only added 1/2" to each side. This tutorial will be done for my measurements so keep that in mind.

Cut (2) 13" x 6 1/2" pieces out of your fabric scraps
Cut (2) 12 1/2" x 6" pieces fusible interfacing or batting

When you're done, you will have 4 pieces as shown below.

Now, center the 2 interfacing pieces onto the back side and iron them on. They should look like this when you're done.

Place your pieces right sides together as shown.

Mark a 4" opening along one of the longer sides. You will not sew this part.

Pin and sew all the way around leaving the 4" opening you just marked.

Clip your corners....

....and turn right side out.

Now, top stitch all the way around the outside.

I top stitched a second row of stitching as you can see in the photo below.

And you're done! I used 2 different fabrics so I could flip mine over when I wanted a change!
You must make one! Seriously, this project will only take you an hour- or less! Have fun!

Clippie Case - Clippie Dips

Hello you lovely Inspiration Cafe readers Amy from Clippie Dips here!
Today I'm going to show you how to sew a cute little case to keep all those little hair clips in. The idea for this came when I reached in my purse to pull out a hair clip for my daughter which was apparently stuck to something gooey. Now, for those of you who have small children, you understand that most days you're either going to find something weird or gross in your purse that was put there by the little humans!

Okay, here we go!

Supplies
-fabric scraps
-fusible fleece
-scrap medium weight interfacing
-3" piece of velcro (hook and loop)
-jumbo ric rac
-sewing machine
-thread, scissors and iron
-rotary cutter and mat (optional)

Cut (1) 6 ½” x 8 ½” exterior fabric
Cut (1) 6 ½” x 8 ½” interior fabric
Cut (2) 6 ¼” x 8 ¼” fusible fleece (one for interior and exterior pieces)
Cut (2) 4” x 4” pieces of fabric which will be your flap
Cut (2) 3 ¾” x 3 ¾” pieces fusible fleece
Cut (1) 6 ½” x 8 ½” heavyweight interfacing
Cut (2) 7” ric rac

Iron fusible fleece on to the backside of both of your flap pieces (4” x 4” pieces).
Place them right sides together and sew where indicated.

Clip corners and then turn inside out. Press and then topstitch as shown in pic below.

Place one of your 3” pieces of Velcro about  ½” down from the top of the flap on the interior side. Sew in place and then set your flap aside.

Iron both pieces of fusible fleece onto the backside of your interior and exterior pieces just like you did for the flap.

Place ric rac on each end of interior piece 2” in as shown below. Pin down in the middle to hold in place. Make sure to keep the pins out of the seam allowance.

Now let’s make a sandwich. Place your interfacing down on your workspace. Then place your exterior case piece right side up. Then your flap piece with the Velcro facing up.

And finally, lay your interior case piece right side down. Pin in place.

Mark a  3” opening on the side of your case.  Sew from one mark to the other backstitching at the beginning and end.

Clip corners. Then reach in and pull out the pins you used to secure the ric rac. Pull the inside out through the opening. I’m not going to lie, this part sucked!

Push corners out, then straighten and iron….A LOT! :)

Once, it's flat and looks nice, sew all the way around 1/8” from the edge closing the opening as you go.

Fold your case in half, letting the flap come over the top. While still holding the flap down, lift it enough to place your other piece of velcro where it needs to go. Pin the velcro in place.

Now, turn it over and flip the ric rac over and pin it out of the way like in the picture below.

Turn it back over once again and sew the velcro in place. Then unpin and flatten the ric rac.

ALL DONE!

Let's see what it looks like all filled up, shall we?!

Enjoy your new clip case! :)
